Interview with Beverley Stewart from 3D-Beauty Eyelash Extensions

Interview with Beverley Stewart from 3D-Beauty Eyelash Extensions

MatsiMela Home Spa recently acquired the distribution rights for 3D-Beauty Eyelash Extensions from the USA. We interviewed Beverley Stewart who heads up this division to shed some light on the most asked questions:

What is 3D Beauty Eyelash Extensions?

3D-Beauty is an American brand that is an international industry leader in eyelash extensions. 3D-Beauty is committed to exceeding all industry regulations for safety and hygiene, and is being exclusively distributed by MatsiMela Home Spa.

What makes it different to other extensions?

3D-Beauty’s products, together with our advanced volumising application technique, are of such exceptional quality, that these extensions will never damage your client’s natural lashes, nor cause them to fall out. The volumising technique that we use allows for multiple extensions, which are as fine as the natural lashes, to be placed together on one natural lash in a way that creates additional volume to the lashes, rather than simply adding length. This is great for clients who have fine or sparse lashes, and who want a “fuller” look.

What makes the technique different?

There are a few different techniques being used in the industry. We offer training in classic lashes as well as in volumising. The technique used in volumising is an advanced technique, and allows the therapist to create fans, which are then placed on the natural lash. This should not be confused with “clusters” or “flares”. Our volumising lashes are NOT clusters. The technicians are trained to create the fans, while doing the treatment. The number of extensions used in the fan is based on the length and strength of the natural lash that the extension will be placed on, as well as the style being incorporated into the application.

How long is the training and what does it involve?

Our training takes 3 full days. We have combined the classic lashes training AND the advanced volumising training into one concise course. It’s a lot of work, but it’s hands-on and fun. Both the theory and the practical part of the training are covered in small groups of no more than 6 people.

The training is just the beginning of the journey though. It’s imperative that the therapists continue to practice the technique regularly, in order to be able to be certified. Therapists will only be certified once they have completed at least 30 hours of practice, and have attained the required level of competence.

If I have done eyelash extension training before, can’t I just buy your kit?

If you have done training before, you will be at an advantage. You will, however, still need to attend our advanced training course, but we’d apply a discount to any training fee applicable, based on your expertise. We’ve seen a number of eyelash extension technicians who have been trained before, and who use techniques that are old fashioned, at best, and dangerous, at worst.  In an industry that is constantly changing, it’s important for eyelash extension technicians to upgrade their skill set periodically. If you are currently using a similar technique to the one we’d train you in, we’d simply need to ensure that your theory is up to date, and that you understand the products and how they work together. It may be a simple matter of spending a day together.

How much profit can I make by using them?

Salons could make as much as 300% on a set of lashes. Our recommended retail rates are precisely that; recommended. Each salon can determine their own price per set, based on area and client profile. That said, it is important to realise that the cost of the therapist’s time has not been factored into this calculation. The more regularly the therapist does treatments, the faster she will become. And time is money.

How often does someone need a fill?

Each client is different. Natural lash loss varies based on lifestyle, health, hormones, and a number of other factors. Everyone loses lashes (through natural lash loss) every day, in just the same way as we lose hair from our heads every day.  When a lash falls out, due to natural lash loss, the extension on that lash is lost. The more natural lash loss a client experiences, the sooner she will need to have a fill. On average, clients need to have a fill every 2 to 3 weeks, in order to maintain their new look. The more regularly they have their fills, the shorter the treatment time will be.
