The AromaForum is a South African networking platform established for the facilitation and dissemination of aromatherapeutic information.

The forum also functions as a platform for the provision of diverse aromatic resources, thereby serving the needs and interests of the lay person, as well as those of the professional practitioner.

There has been confusion in the different aspects of Aromatherapy, especially when it comes to Cosmetic Aromatherapy, which affects a large number of persons involved in the Cosmetic Industry.

The AromaForum website provides a wealth of information and if your concerns or questions are not answered there, please contact them using the above details.

Of interest to both the consumer and Cosmetic Aromatherapist is the following description of the basic differences:

Cosmetic aromatherapy generally indicates the use of essential oils for skin and beauty care in pre-blended products, whilst therapeutic application refers to the use of essential oils in the treatment of clinical conditions or health disorders that require individual formulation of oils specific to the condition/s being treated, as well as consideration of the unique individual being treated.

It must be noted that there are distinctly different levels of training and qualification related to these two different methodologies.

In South Africa, persons trained in cosmetic delivery of service are not qualified, or legally permitted, to administer treatment at therapeutic levels or to make claims to be doing so, since clinical application of essential oils may only be administered by an aromatherapeutic practitioner registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa. For a list of qualified, Council registered practitioners contact info@aromaforum.co.za
