pH MATTERS
Don't ignore the pH of your skincare products. As we pointed out in our previous newsletter - your skin supports an ecosystem of microbes that is responsible for its well being. These microbes make up your skin's microbiome. This ecosystem is sensitive to pH. Get the pH wrong and the wrong microbes settle in and cause havoc.
Your body naturally promotes a surprisingly acidic skin environment by feeding the right kind of bacteria on your skin. The acid shield produced by these little critters is known as your acid mantle and is your skin's best form of defence.
Your skin's natural pH is between 4.5 and 5.5. This low pH can be a challenge in skincare preparations, so most products on the market are not acidic enough. |
