Skin Renewal skin treatments to get rid of
those tell-tale pigmentation marks

Skiing and Hot Rum Drinks for me!

If there is one thing that I am really bad at, it is skiing. Been there, tried it and failed miserably - but being from sunny SA where I never saw a ski slope until long after I had reached adulthood, I am going to be kind to my skin, stay out of the sun and go skiing at the end of the year. I will not give up on those amazing steamy hot rum drinks they serve on the slopes because - yip you guessed it - I don’t like going downhill in any shape or form and that goes for my looks as well!

Skin ageing is mainly caused by systematic sun exposure and we have plenty of that in South Africa. So, this winter, partake in some skin treatment to get rid of those tell-tale pigmentation marks. Skin Renewal Clinics have many kinds of treatment that have a direct effect on the formation process of melanin, our skin pigment. This is certainly the place to go for the best advice and result driven treatments!

Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment®:
Cosmelan treatment has a high safety margin and its principal action is the elimination of melasma on the face, hands and décolleté. Before the treatment, and to improve the results, a Mesoestetic Mandelic® Acid peel is applied. This is then followed by the Cosmelan treatment mask which has as its main action the inhibition of the enzyme (tyrosinase) in the melanin formation process.

The advantage of this treatment is that it is very effective against deep seated melasma where other more traditional treatments have failed. It has been proven to be compatible with all skin types and colours.
Although it can be done all year round, it is always better to do it in winter as there is less chance of accidental skin exposure to the sun. Those with acne scars will also benefit, especially for the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) that can occur, which leaves brown marks where the acne pustules once were.

The statistic that convinced me to pursue this treatment was that in 99% of cases, the disappearance of the blemishes improved by 95% - an important endorsement if ever. This treatment is suitable for young and old as it is effective to treat melasma, brown spots, blotchiness, hyperpigmentation and acne scarring.
Home Care:
After the treatment skin may turn red and become itchy, but help is at hand with the recommended Mesoestetic Hydra Vital Factor K® cream that should be used during the healing process. Flaking will occur in all skin types, but this treatment specific cream can be used every two hours until it improves.

A word of warning – keep your eager little fingers off your face. Do not pick at the loose skin, rub or scratch it, and for at least two weeks after the treatment no saunas or steam baths are allowed. The first four months after your treatment is considered part of the treatment period, and after that there is the stabilisation period to ensure you get the best possible results.

Dermamelan Depigmentation:
Dermamelan is a 25% higher concentration treatment and has similar active ingredients as Cosmelan. Both products are administered under a cosmetic doctor’s supervision and are indicated for the same symptoms, depending on your skin and how much help is needed.

When you visit your Skin Renewal Clinic the doctor will advise which of these two products will have the best results for you, and that is yet another reason why I go there. The staff are professional and know what they are doing - so rest assured you will be in safe hands as skin improvement and anti-ageing is their speciality.
One’s skin will continue to improve after these treatments and with good after care you can get the best out of this treatment. Now you understand why I’m going skiing this year.
